Homestead Exemption E-File

Welcome to the Charlotte County Property Appraiser’s online homestead exemption application

Eligibility Requirements:

  • In order to file online, the property you are filing on must reflect ownership in your name on our website. This may take up to 4 weeks following your closing.
  • You must be a permanent resident of Florida residing on the property where the homestead exemption is being sought (primary residence) as of January 1st. (§ 196.015, Florida Statutes)
  • The deadline to submit an exemption application for the current year is March 1st.
  • Married couples filing for homestead exemption must complete the application during the same application session.

Due to the limitation of our online homestead exemption application, if your application fits into any following category, please visit our office to apply in person:

  • Any portion of the property is listed as a company or business.
  • Property, or part of the property is held in a Trust.
  • Any portion of the property is rented or leased.
  • One or more of the owners holds Permanent Resident Alien Card.

The following is a list of the documents that you will be asked to provide information about. Please have these documents available while completing the application:

  • Valid Florida Driver License or valid Florida Identification card. You will need to provide ID number and issue date. It must reflect the address of the property that you are filing on as the permanent residence address.
  • Vehicle registration (if vehicle owner). You will need to provide tag number and issue date. It must reflect the address of the property that you are filing on as the permanent residence address.
  • Voter registration (if registered voter). You will need to provide ID number and issue date. It must reflect the address of the property that you are filing on as the permanent residence address.

The following is a list of information you will be asked to provide as part of your exemption application:

  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number (if you are married, you will also be required to provide your spouse's SSN)
  • Date you purchased the property
  • Date you occupied the property
  • Address of previous residence
  • Address of other property owned by you and/or a spouse
  • Telephone number
  • A good email address
  • Employment information (if applicable)
  • Mailing address listed on last IRS tax return

If any of the owners are married and one is NOT filing for homestead exemption, you will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Both Social Security Numbers of the married couple
